George and Barbara Lay - Grocer's shop (C1871, W1874). Barbara is also a dressnaker. Their daughter, also named Barbara, will (in 1883) marry Francis Carter of No 14-18 Victoria Street.They will live at No 78 High Street, and give birth in 1887 to Reginald Carter, the celebrated postcard artist. Barbara Lay - Grocer. George dies this year and his widow takes over the business. Shortly before her own death in 1897 (GRO), she moves home and business to 33 Station Road known as 'Prospect Place'.

1931/2
Walter James Doy and his son, Spencer Frederick Doy - trading as WJ Doy & Son,Coal and Corn Merchants, acquire the business this year. No 33 becomes the registered address of the combined Doy family business which has historically traded from buildings at 15 Lorne Road. The coal merchant side remains at Lorne Road, managed by Spencer Frederick while Walter James concentrates on the Corn Merchant side.

1949
Walter J Doy & Son - Trading as W J Doy and Son. Management of the shop has recently been taken over by one of Walter's five sons, Cyril E Doy (younger brother of Spencer Frederick) Walter having fallen ill. He dies in June this year.

Note: Before the war, Cyril Doy was a print apprentice at SP James Printers (Nos 6-8 Church Street). During the war, he spent two years as a prisoner of the Japanese. After a period of rehabilitation at Long Melford at the end of the war, Cyril joined printers Caxton's of Beccles. His own father strongly advised him not to accept the invitation to take over the management of the Corn Merchant shop, saying that it would not provide a viable living. Cyril ignored the advice and supplemented his income as a Reydon Postman. (Source: Cyril Doy and his niece, Pat Peak)

Vanessa Collen and Clare Adkins open their first clothes boutique 'collen & clare'. The following year they move the main part of their business to No 25 Market Place, retaining 33 first as a 'sale shop' and later as a children's clothes shop.
